Reaching to Sunlight Series
Trees grow in such unique and intriguing ways! Some grow up and branch out long and twisted, reaching to the sky, but perhaps bending around other branches first.
Another tree, large and calm, might reach out its branches in a more direct, but majestic manner - the gentle breeze bends the upper branches and makes the leaves dance but the trunk is sure and strong.
Then of coarse, there's a bending palm tree that has evidence of old, thoroughly woven branches on its trunk, while the newer fronds are freely growing out on the top like fireworks. But not all palm trees grow the same way either. There are so many interesting varieties to explore and describe!
After observing these beautiful trees, I start painting the unique tree in its environment, which kind of has its own story...

The breeze rustles the leaves on a warm spring afternoon. The bushes dance with the wind and the sun streams through the tree canopy to make varied patterns of light on the earthen floor below. A weather-worn bench underneath the old tree invites a pause and time for reflection, perhaps with a cup of tea and a book.

Manmade walls cannot keep all these trees and plants hemmed in! Each tree is joyfully growing around them and the sunlight is highlighting their unique features and giving them strength. This painting was created during 2020 when there was much isolation and fear in many places. During that time it was very dark but in that darkness, God helped me and gave me hope and joy through that difficult time.
